It is believed, however, that betting on horses is supposed to be a fun activity. Some select a horse with particular preference to the name while others may be influenced by the color of the silk and or number that is lucky for them. Whatever works, right? Everyone has the impulse to bet on the Belmont Stakes which is the last of the Triple Crown race. If one wants to go beyond the straightforward win bet, there are a number of ways to participate and up the ante of this famous race. Below are a few examples of more interesting types of bets that you can make to add extra excitement when betting on the Belmont Stakes.
This is considered as having the lowest level of risk and as being the easiest way to bet for horse racing. Outright – you select a horse and wager it to either win, place or show, this means that the horse has to finish in first place, second place or third place respectively. This begins with a $2 base bet but you don’t have to start there, you can begin with any other amount of your choice. Another strategy that can be taken is ‘across the board’, the bet on the horse to win, place and show costs $6 on the $2 base. In case the horse finishes at the third position and or higher, then you are entitled to his winnings. Instead, you can go for a ‘win-place’ bet, where you bet on your horse to win but also to take the second position. This is four units bet on the base amount of two units.
Do you fancy your chances of correctly guessing the two runners who will be first past the post? That’s called an exacta. Exacta betting is very flexible, and it can be taken “straight up,” hence you can say, “I’ll bet $2 on 1-2,” which means the runner pair must come in exactly this order; one has to win, and two, to place. In addition, one can wager a box as well. For example, you might bet, as simple as that, “I’ll take a $2 exacta box 1-2. That means if the 1 and the 2 come in, you are a winner. The box will cost you double the amount, as you are having two sets rather than one set of permutations. This strategy also has the strength that you can select many combinations of horses as you wish and the calculations are easy. To arrive at the various possibilities of your horse selection, you simply have to subtract the number of horses to be boxed by the following number. Thus for a five-horse exacta box you get twenty the number arrived at by multiplying 5 X 4. If the price starts from $2, an item of this size and type would cost $40. A six-horse box means 30 combinations since their position is also considered (6 horses x 5 columns), with $2 as the base, it would be $60 and so on. One of my favorite bets that is spectacular when the right two get there and covers a lot of bases is the five-horse exacta box.
If you want the highest payout, coupled with a difficult bet to get, then the trifecta or the trifecta box, could be for you. This type of bet means that you have to select three horses out of the available ones in the race, and the horses should be in the order of their finishing position; first, second, and third. Similar to an exacta, you can also go for a straight trifecta (1-2-3) meaning that the horses must finish in that order. A trifecta box (1-2-3) lets you win a bet if any of the three horses finish in a specific place, such as 3-2-1. However, let me draw your attention to the fact that it tends to cost more because of the presence of more combinations. Indeed, the number of possible trifecta combinations is determined by multiplying the number of horses with the next enveloping number and the next enveloping number. For example, a $2 base bet, six-horse trifecta box will cost $240, having 120 combinations (6×5×4).
A variation of this is the trifecta key/wheel. If you have a certain horse that you like most, you can use this horse in one or more positions for trifecta while completing the rest of the positions with numerous horses. For instance, regularly, I key a middle of the range horse and then use it as the first and the second in the trialia. An example bet could be $1 trifecta with 1 horse to finish first, 2-3-4 to finish second and any of 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 to place third. This is $1 third place plus $1 second place plus $1 third place times six, which is $18. It can be conducted as a means of optimizing actual returns with leverage on a particular horse that you have deemed to have high chances of winning.
I don’t bet superfectas, where you try to pick the horses coming in first, second, third, and fourth very often. As for me, it all looks quite unpredictable or rather, shot in the dark. Although, it can be really exciting to box one every once in a while if you are lucky, I stick to exacta and trifecta bets and put somewhat more in these. Similar to trifecta betting, you can either bet on the superfecta on top or bet it boxed.
Multi-race bets include pick threes, pick fours, and pick fives in which one must select the winner of three, four, or five consecutive races respectively –all before the commencement of the first leg of the wager in most cases. I like betting pick fives, especially if you’ve identified a particular race where you believe a particular horse will triumph; then you can extend your analysis on other legs, raising your odds of earning big. In the same way, pick three, four and five bets are favorable in that they start with a base of 50 cents. Having a ticket that includes two horses for one race, three for three races, and four for another leg will give you good coverage. For instance, a ticket labeled as 2x3x3x3x4 costs a hundred and eight dollars. The number of horses that can be selected in each leg is also not limited; merely extend the equations to that view: The cost of a bet with a 50 cents base wager is therefore obtained by dividing the total selections by 2. The attractive thing about horse racing betting is the availability of a bet type that every individual can place. Whether you are risking $2, $20 or $200, it is the action that tops up more fun and thrill irrespective of the amount being wagered.
